Our New Classroom Arrives!!

On Monday a digger came to Tomarata School to dig out a base for the new classroom. The digger knocked over two very big trees. It was amazing! We watched the big orange digger. The digger was huge. There was a safety fence, a big orange fence. The next day in the early morning a big brown truck was at school with the new classroom on the trailer.
It has been a very cool morning!!

The New Class

Today the class has arrived this morning I watched it. It was fun. All of Room Two went to the playground, I got pushed off two times! I liked watching the class getting dropped down except the bell rang - so I kept watching it!
I enjoyed seeing the machines doing their jobs.
I came to class just in time as Mrs Stevens said my name. I had to rush to class and I was just in time. Then Mrs Stevens took us out to watch for five minutes. I saw Mrs Dunns class heading back too. We might go and look again. It was fun!

I tried to get cup of tea but they would not let me! At 11.oo our grandparents went home and I had a sore tummy. My favourite part was morning tea. I had an awesome morning.

Beach Education

On Friday Rooms 2, 4 & 5 went to Mangawhai Beach to learn to swim safely between the flags. We played some games down on the beach.
After the games we went inside to have lunch. When some of Rooms 2, 4 & 5 finished their lunch they got into their togs. Then we went outside in
room lines. Room 2 got to go in the water first with the boogie boards. The water was cold, and it started to rain while we were in the water. We were already wet so it didn't matter!
I thought that it was a fun trip.

Trip to Whangarei Museum

On Friday Tomatara juniors went to Whangarei Museum and the kiwi house. First we went to the class room and listened to Mr Davidson and Mrs Luada and thier funny stories.
My favourite story was when Mr Davidson came home crying because he got wacked by the teacher - he didn't listen to his teacher!
We had a fun day.
It was also Mrs Humfrey's last day with us.

Last night it was the bomb!
Did you hear the beautiful mermaids? They sang awesomely.
Hannah was funny, she was a mermaid too. All or the mermaids were beautiful.
Rosa and I were holding hands all the time, but not when I wanted to hold hands with someone else like Saffy.
I had butterflies in my tummy.
I loved the Production.

Production

Rainbow strolled carefully onto the stage. His colours were all colours, such as amber, purple, green and black. His eyes were as big as dinner plates. His tail was as purple as the middle of a flower. Rainbow said "I am a giant dragon and I am very rare, so you may not see me again!" Then he kept marching like a very proud lion. Rainbow's scales were the most pretty things I have ever seen. Rainbow was the best thing anyone will ever see in their dreamy and exciting lives.

We are learning to use adjectives and similes in our writing.
Last night was the prodution. Room 2 were Bills, Durrs and Sea Creatures. We did an 11.30 and a 7pm show. We got our faces painted, it felt itchy! I think we all did really well and it was exciting.

Castle Creations

26/8/09 August 2009

On Wednesday Room 2 made castles. First we made plans then we started making them. We started sticking boxes together. Then we made things to put in our castles. After that we painted them. We were all happy and proud.

Every Fairytale Needs a Castle!!

On Wednesday we made AWESOME castles! We designed and built them, then we mixed black and white to make grey to paint our castles. We learned that castles have a keep which has very thick walls, this was to make it safe for the lord of the castle.

Colour Scapes

We made some city scapes.
First we drew buildings, then we drew our road.

We had to use lots of colours. We had lots of fun making these pictures, even though they look a bit different than normal buildings.

Colour Prints

Today we painted our hands with the three primary colours - red, blue and yellow. It was fun to press our hands on to paper and look for the secondary colours, like green and orange!
Nicky and Aarana had to remember not to scratch their noses while their hands were wet!!
Thanks Tracy for your wonderful help.

Going Spinning!

10/8/09.
On the 8 of August Room2 made colourful spinning wheels.
Abbey and Pharoah showed theirs to Mrs Duffin.
Blu did 55 spins!
We tried it with one hole but that didn't work so we tried two holes and it did work.
It was AWESOME!!!!!

Colours

The food colouring we used was red, blue and yellow. First we poured full fat milk into the bowl, then we added food colouring. We poured in washing liquid and watched what happened. It chased the milk fats around and around in circles. We saw lots of shapes, like dragon heads, flowers , comets, asteroids and tornadoes. Some of the colours were strong and brave like a rocket zooming past my eyes, making me dance like a dancing cheetah around the classroom. It was fantastic, I would love to try this at home. Mixing Colours

First we mixed full fat milk, washing liquid and food colouring. Then we watched wicked creations happen - the colours were bursting! There was a rocket shape moving as fast as a hippo. The sun shape looked incredible, amazing and awesome. I want to try this at home because it was easy and fantastic.

School Garden

This is our school garden. The plants have grown a lot since this photo!
We planted green hairy caterpillers - not really, but they arrived anyway!
We had lettuce from our garden on our sandwiches last week, it was yummy. Michael brought in a blueberry bush, we haven't had any berries yet. Nicky brought in strawberry plants, the red ones keep disappearing... we wonder where?
We love our garden!

Surf To School Visit

Who is this mystery person???

We had a fun session in April talking about safety at our lakes and beaches when two life guards came to visit.

Customs Dogs

We were delighted to have two special dogs visit us at school. They were from Customs, and are trained to find drugs! The visit was part of the Seniors DARE Programme. We loved how one dog scratched at the bags, while the other dog was passive and sat beside the bag that smelled like drugs. Titan was funny because when his lead was off he ran around with his toy!

Our garden
by Kaleb
In our garden there is green, healthy lettuce growing by the long green chives. I like our garden because it has all my favourite food in it. There are marigolds in the garden to keep the insects out. On the outside we have put crushed egg shells to keep out snails and slugs too. I really like our school garden because it has lots of good food for you to eat!
